FilmNation Entertainment has announced a significant addition to its leadership team. The company has appointed Andy Kim, previously a key executive at Participant Media, to the role of chief operating officer. Kim's responsibilities will encompass a wide range of operational and strategic initiatives aimed at furthering the company's growth and success.
Kim brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous roles in the entertainment industry. His new position comes at an exciting time for FilmNation, which has recently garnered acclaim and commercial success for several high-profile projects. Among these are Sean Baker’s Cannes-winning film "Anora" and Edward Berger’s BAFTA Best Film winner "Conclave," both of which are in contention for this year's Oscar for best picture. Kim expressed enthusiasm about joining the dynamic environment at FilmNation, emphasizing his commitment to storytelling that resonates globally. He is eager to collaborate with creatives across various entertainment platforms, contributing to the company's innovative spirit.
Kim's appointment follows the departure of Milan Popelka, who previously held the COO position and has since moved on to join Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment. Prior to joining FilmNation, Kim served as CFO at Participant Media, where he oversaw financial and operational activities. His background also includes a stint at The Weinstein Company, where he played a pivotal role in identifying strategic opportunities and managing financial operations. Beyond his professional achievements, Kim is actively involved in supporting the Asian Pacific community through his advisory role with Goldhouse and serves on the Audit Committee for the Board of Film Independent. He is also an adjunct faculty member at NYU's Stern School of Business.
Glen Basner, CEO of FilmNation Entertainment, praised Kim's extensive experience and hands-on approach, highlighting how these qualities will be instrumental in driving the company forward. With Kim's expertise, FilmNation aims to elevate its business while continuing to produce impactful content across multiple media formats. The company's diverse portfolio includes films, television series, podcasts, and theater productions, with recent successes such as "The Big Sick," "Arrival," and HBO's "I Know This Much is True." Additionally, FilmNation's new production label, Infrared, focuses on creating films with franchise potential, with its inaugural project, "Novocaine," set to premiere in March.
The arrival of Kim signals a new chapter for FilmNation, one filled with promise and innovation. His leadership will undoubtedly contribute to the company's ongoing mission to tell compelling stories that captivate audiences worldwide. As FilmNation continues to expand its creative horizons, it remains committed to fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration within the entertainment industry.
