The world of entertainment witnessed a remarkable event as Coleen Rooney, Barry McGuigan, and numerous other stars embarked on a journey Down Under to film the highly anticipated I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. Cameras rolled in the beautiful Springbrook National Park in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia. Ant and Dec were on site, filming live segments from the platform and the iconic rope bridge in the trees. It's interesting to note that the first series was filmed in a different location near Cairns in Queensland. During the Covid pandemic in 2020, due to travel restrictions, the ITV jungle show was given a makeover and filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales. However, since the second series broadcast in 2003, the show has been consistently filmed in the same location in Murwillumbah.

Leaders Lodge - A Luxurious Haven in the Jungle

TV bosses made a significant change by axing the first challenge and instead crowning the camp's first leaders, Tulisa Contostavlos and Alan Halsall. While the other celebrities rough it out under the stars, the leaders were given an enviable setup. Eight out of ten of the celebrities still sleep under the open sky, but the Leaders Lodge provides a comfortable bed for the leaders to rest in. Along with that, there are rocking chairs where they can sit and relax. This shelter also protects them from any unexpected downpours in the jungle, which can have a significant impact on their moods. Executive producer Olly Nash shared with The Mirror that the new Leaders Lodge has wonderfully comfy beds sheltered from the rain, nice plush pillows, and big duvets or doonas as they call them in Australia. This ensures that the leaders stay nice and snug and warm, in contrast to the others who are exposed and sleep in swags. Apart from the luxurious accommodation, the leaders are exempt from all the chores, and it is expected that Contostavlos and Halsall will have the power for at least a week in the jungle. Other changes to the camp include the comfortable chairs for the leaders to sit around the firepit, while the rest of the camp has to make do with logs.

Social Dynamics in the Main Camp

I’m a Celebrity 2024’s line-up has brought a new set of personalities together. Scarlette Douglas, a 2022 contestant, told Yahoo that the main camp where the show is filmed is a "small space." Although it may seem big on TV, in reality, it's not that large. Contestants can wander off to other places, but they are mostly around the camp. This creates a unique social challenge as different personalities have to coexist in such a confined area for a long time.

Jungle Showers - A Memorable Experience

Some of the jungle's memorable spaces remain the same, including the dunny that all the celebs dread. And let's not forget the outdoors shower, which is known for its freezing temperature! The outdoors jungle showers have become a talked-about part of the show thanks to Myleene Klass and her white bikini in the 2006 series. She even auctioned off that bikini for £7,500, proving its significance. Klass told Yahoo in 2023 that the bikini has done its job and is quite incredible. We also can't forget Nigel Farage who went naked in the outdoor shower last year. Alternatively, celebrities can use the bathtub, but they have to pump the water to get a hot bath.

The Dunny - A Chore to Avoid

The dunny is another aspect that the celebrities dread using every year. Clearing up the dunny is one of the main chores in camp and is often the task that everyone tries to avoid. Behind the scenes, Snoochie Shy revealed that the I’m a Celeb crew helps the stars clean up the dunny. She told The Sun in 2021 that she was doing poo patrol and was relieved not to have to drain the poo herself. She just had to put the privy bowl thing into the cupboard, and then someone would take it out. This gives a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes reality of the show.I’m a Celebrity continues at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
