Devin Haney, the junior welterweight sensation, has returned to the gym with a newfound determination. After a year filled with turmoil, including an April clash with Ryan Garcia that was eventually ruled a no-contest due to Garcia's failed drug test, Haney is once again working with Mickey Bey. The veteran trainer, along with Haney's father, Bill, has rejoined Team Haney, taking on an undefined yet significant role.

Training with a Purpose

Pictures of Haney training have recently surfaced, igniting speculation about his highly anticipated return in 2025. Mickey Bey, who rejoined the team about a month ago after a conversation with Bill Haney, is excited about Haney's current form. "Oh, yeah, I'm back training him," Bey told BoxingScene. "Man, he's already looking good, refreshed. I think he needed a little break, to be honest, because he hasn't had one since turning pro. He's been steady—fight after fight after fight. But I'm real impressed with what I'm seeing already. He's going to be super sharp for his next fight."During training, Bey and Bill Haney collaborate daily, sharing training duties and giving Devin space to enjoy his personal life while still focusing solely on boxing. "We don't label my role," Bey said. "Basically, I train him like the head trainer, but me and his father talk things through every day—what role we'll each play, what we'll work on. The chemistry's been great. For now, we're just keeping it light since there's no official fight date. Devin doesn't have any weight on his back; he can just train and enjoy life."

Dealing with Criticism

Haney, unbeaten at 31-0 (15 KOs), has faced intense criticism since the Garcia fight, which was initially ruled in Ryan's favor. Mickey Bey sees parallels in how fans once eagerly awaited Floyd Mayweather's downfall and rejoiced at Haney's last fight adversities. "He's coming off the worst criticism," Bey said. "Garcia failed a test, came in overweight, but it's Devin getting punished. It's like fans wanted him to lose, the way they wanted to see Floyd Mayweather lose. But that's part of the game, and we're going to shut everybody up—with actions."Haney is now re-energized and poised to silence his doubters and further cement his legacy. Whether he defends his undisputed status at 140lbs or explores new challenges, Team Haney believes he'll deliver. "I'm happy to be back, especially with us coming off this kind of controversy," Bey said. "We know how to handle it in a healthy way, but it also makes it fun. Devin is working, and as soon as he fights, we'll quiet all the noise. That's just part of the game."
