On a memorable Wednesday evening in Sinclairville, Emiley Anderson of Cassadaga Valley etched her name into the annals of local basketball history. During a CCAA Division 3 girls' basketball game against Randolph, Anderson surpassed Vicki Swanson-Martin to become the all-time leading scorer for Cassadaga Valley. Despite her impressive performance, the Cougars fell to the Cardinals with a final score of 74-42. The match took place at Art Asquith Gymnasium and was a pivotal moment in the season as it also secured a share of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 title for Randolph.

Anderson entered the game needing just 16 points to tie Swanson-Martin's record set in 1979. After a slow start, she found her rhythm with a three-pointer at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, she had accumulated 10 points. In the third quarter, Anderson shifted her focus to scoring from inside the paint, tying the record. Her decisive shot came early in the fourth quarter, a runner in the lane that sealed her place in history. Coach Al Roller called a timeout immediately after, allowing the crowd to celebrate this significant achievement.

Randolph showcased their dominance throughout the game, leading by double digits from the start. Despite missing senior Payton Morrison due to illness, they maintained control with standout performances from Skylar Herington and Sadie Steward. Herington, granddaughter of Swanson-Martin, contributed significantly with 32 points, while Steward added 14. The Cardinals' strong defensive play and unselfish teamwork were highlighted by their coach, David Pihlblad, who praised their adaptability on the court.

The event was not only a milestone for Anderson but also a reunion of sorts, as Swanson-Martin attended the game. Anderson expressed her gratitude for having Swanson-Martin present, noting the significance of breaking the record in front of someone she admires and frequently sees at the gym. Following the game, Anderson took time to capture moments with family, coaches, teammates, and Swanson-Martin herself, marking a proud day for Cassadaga Valley.

As the season progresses, both teams have their sights set on the playoffs. Randolph aims to prepare for potential matchups and pursue higher goals, including a sectional title. Meanwhile, Cassadaga Valley will host several non-league games to ready themselves for postseason challenges. Anderson's new school record stands at 1,582 points, setting a high bar for future players to aspire to.
