The South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) has announced the unanimous selection of Associate Commissioner Amy Boozer to serve as its interim leader. This decision, made on June 4, marks a significant transition as Boozer steps in to fill the role previously held by Jerome Singleton, who is slated to retire this summer after more than two decades of dedicated service.
Boozer’s extensive background in educational athletics positions her uniquely for this interim role. Prior to her tenure as Associate Commissioner, she demonstrated strong leadership as the head coach for both the volleyball and softball teams at Newberry High School, where she also chaired the physical education department. Her commitment to women's sports is further evidenced by her ongoing role as the Executive Secretary for the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women's Sports (CAWS).
Dr. Adam Lanford, President of the SCHSL Executive Committee, expressed full confidence in Boozer's capabilities, highlighting her leadership experience, dedication to scholastic sports, and deep understanding of the League’s operations. Her appointment is expected to provide stability and continuous support to member schools, coaches, and student-athletes during this transitional period, as the search for a permanent commissioner is set to commence on July 1.
This strategic appointment reflects a commitment to seamless leadership and continued excellence within the South Carolina High School League. Boozer's proven track record and comprehensive understanding of the organization's mission will undoubtedly foster a positive environment for all involved, ensuring that the League remains dedicated to the growth and development of young athletes.
