On Tuesday morning, a resounding applause filled the air as Reedley College's new McClarty Center for Fine and Performing Arts came to life. This remarkable center, a decade in the making with a $1 million donation from its namesake, Harold McClarty and his family, stands as a testament to their commitment to leaving the world a bit better. The vision for a performing arts center at the college actually began in the 1970s and is now funded through Measure C, which was approved by taxpayers in 2016. The result is a stunning $30 million performance hall with approximately 500 seats, one of the most technologically advanced theaters in the area thanks to its exceptional sound system. It has the unique ability to model the environment based on the size of the audience and performing group, ensuring that every seat offers an excellent listening experience.
First Performances at the McClarty Center
The audience on that Tuesday was treated to the first two performances on the stage. Harold McClarty himself began by reciting poetry during his remarks, including a heartfelt piece written by his 9-year-old granddaughter. His words painted a vivid picture of the Central Valley with snow-capped mountains and shimmering fountains. "Central Valley. Snow capped Mountains. Shimmering fountains, shine in light of day. But when stars come out, a bright beautiful display," he recited. This moment was truly special, connecting generations and showcasing the power of the arts.Following Harold McClarty, local singer and Reedley College alum Emily Lopez took the stage and performed "Pure Imagination." Her powerful voice filled the hall, captivating the audience and demonstrating the talent that the McClarty Center will bring to the college and the community. The school has exciting plans to announce a schedule of shows and performances in 2025, promising a year filled with artistic excellence.
