The Sioux Falls Zoo and Aquarium presents an exciting event where local artists will share their work inspired by the beauty of butterflies and sea creatures. This is the third year of the "Creative Creatures" partnership between local visual arts organization Untitled.10 and the zoo and aquarium. Each year brings a unique twist to the event.

Why It Matters

This year, the Nov. 30 event will be hosted at the Butterfly House and Aquarium for the first time. It will also mark the first time artists can sell their works, including those inspired by their visits to the butterfly house. The partnership benefits both organizations. Untitled.10 gets to showcase its work in a different community setting, while the butterfly house offers unique, creative programming to its members and visitors. As La’Toria Horan, director of experience and engagement with the butterfly house, said, "This is a great experience to match your love of art with your love of animals. It'll really connect - for kids and families - art with animals and art with conservation, which is really important to us."

Event Details

Creative Creatures will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Butterfly House and Aquarium. Regular admission and Monarch memberships include access to the event activities. Four artists, each with a different medium, will be stationed throughout the facility, explaining their processes, showing their work, and even selling certain pieces. Guests can also make their own artistic creations at an exploratory station in the discovery center, with two art educators, Corissa Petrich and Sonia Perea Morales, overseeing the fun. As people move through and see the aquarium, butterfly house, and other creatures, they'll feel the inspiration in the artwork and may be inspired to take something home or even create something for themselves at home.
