In the realm of holiday movies on Netflix, Lindsay Lohan has been a consistent presence since her three-picture deal began in 2022. Her latest offering, "Our Little Secret," has been generating quite a buzz. Running time: 101 minutes and rated TV-14, this film takes viewers on a rollercoaster of emotions.

Unraveling the Holiday Movie Mystery with Lindsay Lohan

Holiday Romances and Family Drama

It's yet another holiday with Lindsay as she visits her boyfriend Cameron's (Jon Rudnitsky) strict family. Her character Avery, much like in her previous films, finds herself in a tricky situation. She discovers that Cameron's little sister's new beau is actually her ex, Logan (Ian Harding), whom she broke up with 10 years ago. This leads to a complex web of lies and pretenses as they decide to pretend not to know each other to protect their new relationships. The screenplay by Hailey DeDominicis works hard to turn this small scheme into a major plot. There are various mishaps along the way, such as a dog incident with a veterinarian and a mix-up during a Secret Santa exchange. However, it lacks the charm and wit of classic holiday movies like "The Parent Trap."

The Lohan Family Dynamics

The sole lovable addition to the Lohan family is Kristin Chenoweth as Cameron's judgmental mother Erica. Her performance adds a touch of sentimentality to the over-the-top scenarios. She brings a certain savagery to the kitchen table that makes us both cringe and enjoy. But even with Chenoweth's presence, the tonal strangeness of the film remains. Although it may seem like the simplest of Lohan's trilogy, the devices leading to the wrap-up are far from Hallmark happy. A grandmother's dementia and infidelity ending a long-term marriage add a dark twist to the holiday story. There are no laughs or tears at these downer moments; only cringes. Avery's ex Logan is now dating Cameron's sister Cassie (Katie Baker), creating even more tension.Upon hearing about the review, a friend asked a valid question: "Why?" These movies don't aim for great art or entertainment; they are just wintry background noise. But Lindsay Lohan's presence keeps us coming back, hoping for a great comeback. My little secret is that I'm a big fan, but three is a bit too much. Onto "Freaky Friday 2" it is.
