A Musical Duo's Bold Move and New Beginnings

Matthew Wilson's Journey to USC

For Wilson, the path to USC was a spiritual one. "We were both in a phase of 'listening' to our calling," he recounts. During their time as Music Director for Unity in Lynwood, WA and Senior Minister, they contemplated a change and began exploring new communities. USC quickly captured their hearts. "We were drawn to the congregation's engagement. It's a truly unique and extraordinary place."Initially, only the senior minister position was available, which posed a challenge. Having spent over two decades creating music together, the thought of parting with this shared passion weighed heavily on Wilson. "Music has always been my path," he reflects. "My most fulfilling moments are when I'm sharing my ministry of music." When USC later advertised the music director role, it seemed like a sign from above. "I knew this was meant to be."

Wilson's Impressive Musical Pedigree

A native of Tennessee, music has been an integral part of Wilson's life since childhood, with roots in southern gospel, country, and bluegrass. He refined his talents at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has since achieved great success as a recording artist, performer, and music director. As a businessman, Wilson produced a successful concert series for each of his bed and breakfast establishments, recorded two albums, and lent his voice to Garmin holiday commercials. His collaborations with notable artists like Jo Anne Worley (Laugh-In), Oleta Adams, and Grammy Award-winning artist Connie Dover, as well as his featured soloist performances with the Kansas City Symphony, have shaped his dynamic and versatile approach to music.

Wilson's Vision for USC's Music Ministry

At USC, Wilson envisions a vibrant and inclusive music program. "I'm excited to bring quality music to USC and make it a beacon for Unity and New Thought," he shares. His plans include building a full band, a large joyful choir, and organizing a variety of concerts, including a Valentine's Day Chocolate Cabaret, Classical at the Labyrinth, and a Summer Concert Series, as well as interfaith choral events. "I want to create music experiences that uplift and inspire."

The Move to Cleveland and New Adventures

The move to Cleveland marks a new chapter for Wilson and Held. "Adventure is in my blood," Wilson says with a smile. Leaving their former home was a leap of faith, but they have wholeheartedly embraced their new surroundings. "I was pleasantly surprised by Cleveland's natural beauty," he admits, highlighting Lake Erie, the Metroparks, and Cuyahoga Valley National Park. As food enthusiasts, they've also been thrilled by the local culinary scene.Although his main focus is on USC, Wilson is eager to explore Cleveland's rich cultural and musical opportunities. "I'm not planning to join any specific groups right now, but I love discovering the area's arts and events."

Beyond the Church Walls

In addition to his work at USC, Wilson is relaunching his website to promote his albums and performances. He hopes to expand his reach and offer his voice for weddings, funerals, and special events. "I'm excited to continue sharing my music ministry in every possible way."With a successful professional history, a passionate heart, and a deep commitment to his new community, Matthew Wilson is set to make a lasting impact at Unity Spiritual Center and beyond. For more about Matthew Wilson and his music, visit his Facebook music page at https://www.facebook.com/tenorwilson and YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/@matthewwilsonmusic/videos.For more information about Unity Spiritual Center, go to www.uscwestlake.org.
