Navigating the Fantasy Football Puzzle: Week 10 to Week 11 Disparities

Nov 19, 2024 at 4:50 PM
When players experience wild fluctuations in performance between good and bad production, it presents a challenging conundrum in our fantasy football leagues. Every skill player in the NFL holds the potential to shine at any moment, yet predicting these outbursts remains an elusive art. We rely on data such as defensive matchups and player utilization to make educated guesses, but perfection is never guaranteed.

Unraveling the Mysteries of Fantasy Football Performance

Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions

The 9-1 Lions have been a consistent team, thanks in part to their strong defense. However, Goff's fantasy performance has been a roller coaster. After a slow start, he had massive games in Weeks 4 and 6 but then entered a decline. In Week 10, he had a dismal 240-yard, five-interception performance against Houston. But in Week 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he threw for 412 yards and four touchdowns with no errors, putting up his best numbers of the season. This week against the Indianapolis Colts, a plus matchup for QBs, Goff is expected to be in the 16-20 fantasy point range, making him a viable fill-in.In the next few weeks, the Lions' run-first approach remains, and Goff's performance will depend on how well he can adapt. He is a definite start in SuperFlex formats but may face tougher matchups in the future.

Anthony Richardson, QB, Indianapolis Colts

The rumors of Richardson's new coach's impending departure created a lot of commotion. After being benched in Week 8 in favor of Joe Flacco, Richardson made a comeback in Week 11 against the Jets, accounting for three touchdowns and beating them on the road. However, next weekend against the Detroit Lions, a tough matchup for opposing passers and rushers, Richardson faces steeper odds.Richardson has shown potential but also has his flaws. He needs to continue to improve and prove himself in tougher situations. While there are worse options than him for Week 12, he is not yet matchup-proof.

Matthew Stafford, QB, LA Rams

Stafford had a dominant performance against the Patriots on Sunday, throwing four touchdowns and 295 yards with only 18 completions. But in Week 10 against Miami, he had a contrasting performance with zero touchdown passes and one interception in a loss. This season, Stafford has been inconsistent for fantasy managers. His best performances have come against tougher opponents, while his worst have been against more generous pass defenses. In a primetime game against the Eagles this Sunday night, Stafford's performance will depend on his matchup and other options. He is an auto-start in SuperFlex leagues but may not be the top choice every week.

Javonte Williams, RB, Denver Broncos

The emergence of Audric Estimé created some uncertainty in the Denver Broncos' running back situation. In Week 11, Javonte Williams outperformed Estimé, carrying nine times for 59 yards and a score along with four catches for 28 yards.Going forward, it will be a mixed situation as the shared backfield makes it a fantasy nightmare. In Week 12 against the Raiders, both backs have a good chance, but Williams seems to have the edge. His performance will determine his role in the future.

J.K. Dobbins, RB, LA Chargers

Dobbins has been up and down this season, teasing fantasy managers with multi-touchdown performances. In Week 11 against Cincinnati, he had 55 scrimmage yards on 18 touches with two touchdowns. With Justin Herbert playing well, Dobbins is a reliable option. The upcoming matchup with Baltimore is a good one, and he is likely to continue to be a starter. Gus Edwards has not been a significant factor yet.

Breece Hall, RB, NY Jets

Breece Hall was a first-round fantasy pick, but his performance has been inconsistent. After a slow start, he had some disappointing weeks. However, in Week 11, he reminded us of his potential. The Jets' loss has taken them out of contention, and there are concerns about over-using Hall in the future. Braelon Allen could become a factor in the late season.

Jerry Jeudy, WR, Cleveland Browns

The Jameis Winston show has been a fantasy boost for the Cleveland Browns' receivers. In Week 11, Jerry Jeudy had a standout performance with 6/142/1 on 11 targets. But the Browns' next three games against tough defenses in Pittsburgh and Denver may pose a challenge. Cedric Tillman has also been a factor, and Njoku is the only must-start player this week.

Christian Watson, WR, Green Bay Packers

Christian Watson had a great game against Chicago with 4/150, but there are too many good WR options in Green Bay. Jordan Love spreads the ball around, making it difficult for any one receiver to stand out. While the Packers are mostly winning, Watson's high-yardage days may not be sustainable. Romeo Doubs or Reed could also have significant roles in the upcoming game against San Francisco.

Jonnu Smith, TE, Miami Dolphins

Smith narrowly edged out Brock Bowers to be the leading TE in Week 11. His usage has been consistent since Week 5, and this was his best performance of the season. He is actively involved in the Dolphins' game plan and is startable in all 12-team leagues. His performance provides stability at the TE position.

Will Dissly, TE, LA Chargers

Dissly took advantage of a great matchup with the Bengals to post his best fantasy line. He has averaged over six targets per game since Week 6 and caught his first touchdown this year. With Ladd McConkey getting injured, Dissly is a viable option in the Week 12 MNF matchup against Baltimore.
