Following the tragic car crash, the staff at Creative Avenues sprang into action. They worked alongside law enforcement, a tow truck, and neighboring communities to clear the rubble. It was a long and arduous process that lasted until 1 am on Tuesday and continued throughout Wednesday. Despite the challenges, the team remained determined to restore the place to its former glory.
As Dana Schmidt, the Artistic Director for the Theater Project, mentioned, "Luckily it was pretty contained in the one large room that we rehearsed in and all over the front, in the front parking lot area." The extent of the damage was contained to a certain extent, but the impact on the families and staff was significant.
During this difficult time, an amazing thing happened. The number of people who reached out to offer help and support was truly miraculous. From condolences to offers of assistance, the community came together to show their care for those affected. This outpouring of support served as a reminder of the strength of community in times of need.
Schmidt expressed her gratitude, saying, "We know it’s hard to find alternate care, but we really appreciate your patience and we’re glad to be able to be open and take them back in today." The support of the families they serve meant a lot to the staff at Creative Avenues.
Despite the setbacks, the creative spirit at Creative Avenues remains alive. As Schmidt mentioned, "We’ve been dealt a lot of hard things in the past and we just know how to pick it back up and keep moving." This resilience is what sets Creative Avenues apart.
Now, as operations return to normal, the team is focused on moving forward and making repairs. They are determined to keep the creative spirit alive and continue providing a haven for kids and a platform for the arts.
