This fall has witnessed a remarkable surge in the popularity of look-alike contests. It all began just prior to Halloween with a highly anticipated Timothée Chalamet competition in NYC. Since then, similar events have been organized in various locations such as Ireland, England, and even within the United States. The most recent gathering was dedicated to Glen Powell, a Twisters alum and a native of Texas. Powell, who has an impressive lineup of big titles set for the 2024 movie schedule, responded to this event with an extraordinary gesture that has undoubtedly raised the bar for this type of competition and potentially for future ones as well.

Fun and Rising Popularity

Although look-alike contests are not a new phenomenon, it is truly exciting to see how they have gained significant popularity in recent times. Glen Powell's contest took place on November 24th, and it was a special occasion as his mother was in attendance. In fact, the approval of the matriarch was an integral part of the initial prize package.According to Fox 7 Austin, the winner of the contest was awarded $5, a stylish cowboy hat, a year's worth of free queso from a local chain, and the much-coveted thumb's up from mama Powell. Later on, the actual actor shared a video, further sweetening the deal. The Hit Man star offered a cameo in one of his upcoming films to the winner's parents or any other loved one. In his own words:"We know there is some cash and a hat at stake here, but I just wanted to say that the winner of today's contest gets a personal prize from me. Now, you may know that my parents make a cameo in every movie I make, but today, the winner of the Glen Powell lookalike contest wins their parents or any family member of their choice a cameo in my next movie."This declaration by Powell has truly changed the game for future celebrity look-alike events. It not only shows his love for his home state but also makes him even more likable. Considering the great roles he has already played, there is a possibility that the winner's relative(s) could potentially appear in a major production. While it might be too late for the Running Man remake, one can never be sure. There is still a glimmer of hope!
