Littlefield (7-4) is set to face Crane (6-5) at 7 p.m. Friday in Lamesa. Littlefield achieved its first playoff win since 2016 and aims to repeat that success. The Wildcats will be going for a rare feat against a Crane team on a five-game winning streak. Since 2010, Littlefield has reached the third round twice, including making the state semifinals.
Last week, Littlefield's offense powered a 72-36 bi-district win over Friona. Quarterback Chip Green ran for 98 yards and four touchdowns and threw for 240 yards and two scores. The Wildcats reached 70 points for the second time this year. Littlefield has scored at least 22 points in every game, making defense a crucial factor.
Crane surpassed 40 points for the fourth time in a 42-26 playoff-opening win over San Angelo Grape Creek. Junior quarterback Tyson Brents leads the team as the top passer and rusher. However, the Golden Cranes defense has been vulnerable, allowing 27.6 points per game. This will be the most dynamic attack they have faced, as Littlefield's 48.2 points per game is fourth-highest in Class 3A Division II.
Hale Center (10-1) will take on Tahoka (9-2) at 4 p.m. Friday at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty. Both teams share a loss to 11-1 Ropes - the Bulldogs 35-34 in Week 7 and the Owls 33-14 in the season opener. Since then, Hale Center has remained undefeated, and Tahoka is on a five-game winning streak.
Lubbock-Cooper (8-3) will face Prosper Walnut Grove (10-1) at 7 p.m. Friday at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene. Last week, Lubbock-Cooper rebounded from consecutive losses with a strong performance on the road. This is a new experience for the Wildcats, who are in their first season of UIL competition.
Seminole (10-1) will meet Glen Rose (9-2) at 7 p.m. Friday at Sweetwater. There's a playoff rematch as the two-time reigning region champion Tigers won 48-34 in the third round last year, although Seminole led early.
Post (11-0) will play against Anson (8-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Snyder. The Antelopes have an unblemished record, but the Tigers are more experienced. Anson finished third behind No. 1 Stamford and No. 7 Hawley in a district that swept its bi-district opponents.
Estacado (7-4) will face Brock (10-1) at 7 p.m. Friday at Clyde. The Matadors' six-game winning streak has seen their offense average 44.2 points per game. This will be a test against a Brock defense that has allowed more than 13 points only once, in a 38-0 loss to No. 3 Graham.
