Thanksgiving turkey trot helps Arizona nonprofit provide kids with new shoes

Thanksgiving is a cherished tradition for many families, and this year, an Arizona nonprofit is putting a unique spin on the holiday festivities. The Good Soles organization is hosting its inaugural Arcadia Turkey Trot, a charitable running event that aims to provide new shoes to underprivileged children in the community.

Over the past eight summers, the Good Soles nonprofit has donated over 3,500 pairs of new shoes to children in need, filling the closet at Child Crisis Arizona. This year, the organization is taking its mission a step further by hosting the Arcadia Turkey Trot, a Thanksgiving morning event that will raise funds to continue their impactful work.The turkey trot will take place on Thanksgiving Day at 8:30 a.m., starting near 56th Street and Indian School Road. Participants will have the opportunity to trot down the scenic canal, fueled by complimentary coffee and pastries. Each runner will also receive a commemorative t-shirt, courtesy of the event's sponsor."We've had a fantastic community turnout to support us," said Amanda Goossen, the founder and director of Good Soles. "This event is a chance for people to come together, get some exercise, and make a real difference in the lives of local children."

Lacing Up for a Cause

Registration for the Arcadia Turkey Trot is now open, with early bird pricing available until November 10th. Adults can participate for $35, while children's registration is $15. After November 11th, the prices increase to $40 for adults and $20 for children.The funds raised from the turkey trot will be used by Good Soles to continue their mission of providing new shoes to children in need. By ensuring that every child has access to comfortable, well-fitting footwear, the organization aims to boost their confidence, improve their overall well-being, and set them up for success.
