Details of the Collision

Kephas Pope was near El Camino Real and Accolti Way just before noon. He was on his way to class, riding his bicycle, when the fateful collision occurred. Responding police officers and firefighters found him seriously injured and rushed him to a hospital, where he unfortunately passed away. The driver stopped at the scene, and there is no indication of any arrests, citations, or impairment due to drugs or alcohol. As of Friday, no additional details about the exact circumstances of the collision have been released.

This tragic event has had a profound impact on the campus community. Kephas was not only a student but also a straight-A student with a passion for working in the organic chemistry lab. His father is a recent law graduate of the college and currently a lecturer, and his sister is also a student in the Class of 2026.

President's Message

On Thursday afternoon, SCU President Julie Sullivan sent out a campus email to confirm Kephas' death. In the email, she described him as a sophomore majoring in neuroscience and biochemistry. She wrote, "Let us remember Kephas as the wonderful friend, son and student that he was." This message serves as a reminder of the impact Kephas had on those around him.

The campus is now planning a vigil for Kephas, scheduled to take place after students return from Thanksgiving break. This vigil will be a time for the community to come together and pay their respects to a young life lost.
