Alabama football's journey under the leadership of Kalen DeBoer has been a fascinating one. With only two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Crimson Tide finds itself in a unique position. Currently sitting at No. 7 in the AP Poll and as the ninth-seed in the inaugural 12-team format, the team is gearing up for the final stretch before the postseason. On Tuesday, Crimson Tide co-captain and quarterback Jalen Milroe shared his thoughts on the team's current state.
Confidence in the Locker Room
"Feeling confident in our group is key," Milroe said. "Our locker room is filled with guys who are starving for excellence. They are player-led and always focused on how they can help the team. There are a lot of good guys here, and as a quarterback, seeing everyone come together and not get weary is a great sight. It's about being the best version of ourselves."The past few weeks have seen Alabama on a roll, outscoring opponents 128-20 in the past three games. But it wasn't always smooth sailing. Earlier losses to Vanderbilt and then-No. 11 Tennessee, along with a narrow two-point win over then-unranked South Carolina, raised questions about the team's playoff chances.Defense and Team Chemistry
Alabama co-captain and safety Malachi Moore emphasized the importance of team chemistry. "We've settled into who we are as a defense and a team," he said. "Going in each day with a 1-0 mindset, attacking the day and focusing on our jobs has been crucial. We don't let the last play affect us. In some of the games we lost, we let big plays affect the next ones. But now, we're doing a great job of flushing bad plays and moving on. That's been the key to our recent success."Milroe also revealed the importance of kindness and a smile in building team chemistry. "There are things that cost money, but kindness and a smile are free. I try to bring that every day when I come to the building. When we share success, it's amazing. Running out onto the field together on Saturdays is a special moment that shows the hard work we've put in during the week."Focus on the Present
Milroe stressed the need to focus on the present. "We can't get to the CFP moment unless we take care of right now. Refocusing and understanding the task at hand is essential. Our goal is to master each game, go 1-0, and constantly get better. Having that killer instinct, as coach DeBoer mentioned, is crucial. It's about having the right mindset every day."Alabama's next test is on the road against Oklahoma on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 6:30 p.m. on ABC/ESPN+. The team is determined to continue their winning streak and finish the season strong."Each game should be better than the last," Milroe said. "We have to keep getting better, look in the mirror, and figure out how to be explosive as a group. It starts with practice and having a starving mindset. That's going to be the key to our success."
