Tyson Fury appears to have added some significant weight for his highly anticipated rematch against Oleksandr Usyk. In May, 'The Gypsy King' suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of Usyk. However, on December 21, he will get the chance to seek revenge when they meet again in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fury's Weight Strategy and Revenge Quest
Weight Transformation Before the Rematch
Fury's physical appearance has changed significantly since the first fight with Usyk. He now looks much heavier, as evidenced by recent photos from his camp. After packing on 17lbs for his fight with Deontay Wilder in 2020 and emerging victorious in just seven rounds, it seems he is adopting a similar weight tactic for this rematch. One fan on social media remarked, "He looks heavy," highlighting the noticeable difference in his physique. Another added, "In excellent shape. Wilder 2 vibes," suggesting that Fury's new look is reminiscent of his previous dominant performance. A third wrote, "Usyk is gonna get beat up this time around and we’ll get the trilogy," indicating the anticipation for a different outcome this time.
Fury's coach Andy Lee revealed that Fury was unable to engage in proper sparring before the last fight with Usyk due to a cut above his right eye before their initial planned meeting. But now, one month out from the rematch, Fury is getting rounds in with WBC bridgerweight champion Kevin Lerena. Lerena, who dropped Daniel Dubois three times in 2022 before succumbing to a stoppage loss, is a perfect sparring partner for Fury. Not only is he a southpaw, but he is also a former cruiserweight with a similar size and stature to Usyk. Taking to Instagram, Lerena shared photos of him and Fury in the gym together, writing, "Camp Life is in full swing. Just one month left until the Unified Heavyweight Championship of the World. The energy in the gym is electric. Preparation meets determination, desire & the will to succeed! In the lab grinding away."
Fury felt hard done by the result of the last fight and has no intention of leaving the outcome in the hands of the judges again. He told TNT Sport, "I’ve always been a bad man my whole life, and I’m still one today at nearly 40 years old; a few years off 40, but I like to say that. I’m going to go in there with 'destroy mode'. Last time I went to box him, I was being cautious. I boxed the head right off him. Let’s talk facts. Anyone can get caught, as we’ve seen in a lot of these heavyweight fights. But this time I’m not going for a points decision. I’m going to knock a m**********r out."
