The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team's annual Orange and Gray World Series concluded with a decisive 4-0 victory for Team Orange in Game Three. The series finale showcased the depth and talent of the Vaqueros' pitching staff, as three hurlers combined for a shutout performance, allowing just one hit. With the fall ball season now in the books, the team is eagerly anticipating the upcoming spring campaign.

Bonilla, Wanless, and Oliva Combine for Shutout

The Team Orange pitching staff was the story of the day, as senior Robert Bonilla, junior Caden Wanless, and two-way player junior Steven Oliva combined to shut down the opposing lineup. Bonilla, the Team Orange starter, struck out two batters in his three innings of work, setting the tone for the dominant performance. Wanless then took over, tossing two scoreless innings in relief, while Oliva closed out the game with two strikeouts in the sixth inning.The Team Gray offense struggled to generate any momentum, managing just a single hit throughout the contest. Senior Angelo Cabral, the Team Gray starter, recorded a strikeout in his scoreless inning of work, but the team's bats were silenced by the relentless Vaqueros pitching.

Senior Hank Warren then reached base on a throwing error that allowed Stracener to score. Junior Thomas Williams then delivered a double that brought home Martinez and Warren, giving Team Orange a 3-0 lead. The fourth run of the inning crossed the plate after senior Steven Lancia drew a walk, and sophomore Evan Janner and Oliva were hit by pitches to load the bases.The Team Gray pitching staff, featuring graduate student Evan Maldonado and junior Isaiah Gonzalez, managed to limit the damage, but the early offensive outburst proved to be too much to overcome.
