Bringing Hope and Joy to Critically Ill Families

Holiday Challenges for Critically Ill Families

For many, the holidays can be a difficult time. Families raising a critically ill child often have to deal with the added stress of medical expenses. After paying for treatments, there may be no money left for holiday celebrations or gifts. This can lead to a sense of isolation and sadness during a time that should be filled with joy.But A-Kid Again is changing that. By offering free adventures throughout the year, they create memories that last a lifetime.

A-Kid Again's Mission and Impact

A-Kid Again strives to foster hope, happiness, and healing for children with life-threatening health conditions and their families. Through their various activities, they give these families something to look forward to.For example, Annie, Taggart's 11-year-old daughter with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, has been a member for six years. Despite her fragile bones, she leads an active life thanks to A-Kid Again. She has been able to visit the zoo, baseball games, and amusement parks for free. These experiences not only bring joy but also help the families cope with the challenges they face. It gives them a break from the chaos of the hospital and doctor's appointments.

Annual Holiday Adventure at the I-X Center

On Saturday, the Northeast Ohio chapter of A-Kid Again held its annual holiday adventure. Critically ill kids and their families were brought holiday magic at the I-X center. There were a holiday maize, bounce houses, and other inflatable games. It creates a sense of community and understanding.During the party, kids received free Christmas gifts to take home, took pictures with Santa, and enjoyed the festive atmosphere.

The Joy and Gratitude

The joy on the faces of these children is truly amazing. Bucknell herself experiences the impact of their work when a child runs up to her and gives her a big hug.“It comes with a lot of sadness because our kids are so sick, but moments like these make it all worthwhile,” she said.A-Kid Again is not just about providing entertainment; it's about giving families hope and a reason to keep going.
