Abilene Christian Football Players Earn Prestigious Preseason All-American Honors

Two prominent players from the Abilene Christian University (ACU) football program have garnered national attention as they head into the 2026 college football season, being named Preseason FCS All-Americans. These accolades underscore their exceptional skills and the high expectations for the Wildcats' performance in the upcoming year.

Luke Roaten, a senior offensive lineman, received multiple distinctions, earning a spot on the Stats Perform Second Team FCS Preseason All-American list and also being recognized by Phil Steele as a Second Team Preseason All-American. Roaten, who transferred from Washington State with his brother Landon before the 2025 season, made an immediate impact, starting all 14 games at right tackle. His impressive performance last year, which included 65 knockdowns and an 84% blocking grade, earned him First Team All-UAC honors. Joining him in preseason honors is Dillon Williams, a senior defensive back who transferred to ACU from United Athletic Conference rival Central Arkansas. Williams was named a Second Team Preseason FCS All-American by Sports Illustrated/FCS Football Central, following a strong 2025 season where he led the Bears with 83 tackles, accumulating 176 career tackles during his four years at Central Arkansas. ACU head coach Keith Patterson praised Williams's arrival, noting his valuable experience and the confidence he brings to the defense.

The Abilene Christian Wildcats, currently ranked No. 15, are poised for an exciting 2026 season. They will commence their campaign on Saturday, August 28, against No. 21 Lamar at Umphrey Provost Stadium in Beaumont, Texas, in a highly anticipated rematch of the 2025 FCS Playoffs first round. Following this, the team will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday, September 5, at Galaxy Stadium in Lubbock, before returning to Abilene for their home opener on Saturday, September 12, against No. 13 Stephen F. Austin at Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium, another rematch from the 2025 FCS Playoffs.

These significant preseason honors for Roaten and Williams not only recognize their individual talents but also reflect positively on the entire Abilene Christian football program. Such achievements inspire dedication and hard work, demonstrating that commitment to excellence can lead to national recognition and contribute to the team's overall success. This positive momentum sets a strong foundation for a promising season, motivating both players and fans alike.
