The University of Alabama has officially welcomed Alex Accetta, the recently married spouse of head basketball coach Nate Oats, into a key position within its athletic department. This strategic hiring underscores the university's commitment to bolstering its basketball program with experienced and capable leadership.
Accetta, who exchanged vows with Coach Oats in July, will now assume the responsibilities of Director of Program Relations. In this capacity, she will report directly to Shane Lyons, the Executive Deputy Athletic Director and primary administrator for men's basketball. This marks her second tenure with the Crimson Tide, as she previously contributed to the university's operations from April 2015 to October 2022, culminating her earlier service as the Director of Operations for men's basketball. Her career trajectory also includes a significant period with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, where she managed guest experience and business operations from the 2022-23 season through 2025-26.
Shane Lyons expressed enthusiastic support for Accetta's appointment, highlighting her extensive and successful background in both collegiate and professional sports. He emphasized that her prior involvement with the Alabama program, coupled with her insights from four seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, will be invaluable in elevating the program's efficiency and competitive edge. During her time with the Mavericks, Accetta was responsible for orchestrating VIP and executive hospitality, alongside preparing for the appearances of league executives, visiting team owners, corporate partners, and other distinguished guests at home games.
Accetta, a 2017 alumna of Alabama, brings a deep understanding of the institution's culture and athletic aspirations. Coach Oats, 51, who has led the Crimson Tide since the 2019-20 season, boasts a commendable record of 243-170, including six appearances in the NCAA Tournament, with the team reaching the Final Four in 2024.
