What should you pay attention to when raising guppies?
1. Water temperature and quality: The water temperature should be maintained between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius. For adult guppies, I generally keep it between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius, while for newborn guppies, it's around 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. Guppies react very strongly to medications and chlorine. Residual chlorine in the water is a major cause of mass deaths among guppies, so the water for raising guppies should be thoroughly aerated.
2. Lighting: Some people believe that lighting is necessary for guppies, while others don't. I believe that it's not always necessary to use special aquarium lights.
3. Food: Newly hatched guppies do not need to be fed on the first day. This allows them to acclimatize to their environment and also because their yolk sacs have not yet been fully absorbed. Feeding can begin on the second day.
4. Water Changes: Change about 20% of the water daily. Change 50% twice a week, and after two weeks, perform a complete water change, cleaning the tank thoroughly at the same time. During the first month of the fry's life, water changes can be done as follows: From the second to the third month, change 20% daily, 50% weekly, and then perform a complete water change after about two weeks; after the third month, change 20% daily, 50% weekly, and then perform a complete water change after about one month.
Because guppies come in a wide variety of strains and breeds, mixing males and females of different strains can easily lead to breeding problems. Therefore, to ensure purebred offspring, it is essential to keep different strains of guppies isolated according to their breeding requirements.
