This marks the third time the indoor team has received this honor, and an impressive eleventh consecutive year for the beach volleyball program, which also holds the highest team GPA in Division I.
Arizona Volleyball Programs Celebrate Academic Achievements
In a testament to their dedication both on and off the court, the University of Arizona's indoor and beach volleyball squads were recently lauded with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. This prestigious accolade celebrates college and high school teams that maintain a collective grade point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale throughout the academic year, excluding summer sessions. The eligibility criteria also stipulate that the team's coach must be an active AVCA member and nominate the team for consideration.
The indoor volleyball team, under the leadership of head coach Rita Stubbs, has now earned this distinction for the third time in its history, and notably, for the second consecutive year. Their return to the NCAA Tournament in the previous season for the first time since 2018 underscores their commitment to both athletic prowess and scholarly achievement.
Meanwhile, the beach volleyball program, affectionately known as the SandCats, continues its remarkable academic streak. Coached by Steve Walker, the team secured the AVCA Team Academic Award for the eleventh year in a row. This outstanding consistency places them among the elite, having commenced the 2025-26 academic year with one of the longest streaks in collegiate beach volleyball, trailing only Georgia State and Stanford. Beyond this, Coach Walker's team was also recognized with a place on the Team Academic Honor Roll, signifying their position within the top 20 percent of their division. Their pinnacle achievement was being named the 2026 Team Academic Champion for boasting the highest team GPA in their division, a truly commendable feat.
