Throughout his career, Larson has demonstrated remarkable versatility, playing various positions suchately, including corner outfielder, first baseman, and designated hitter. His adaptability on the field will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to the Red Raiders.
Early Career and Professional Prospects
Before his collegiate career, the Minnesota Twins drafted Larson in the 20th round of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft directly out of high school. However, he chose to pursue higher education, spending his freshman and sophomore years at LSU. As a freshman, he played in 53 games with 40 starts, batting .298 with three home runs and 16 RBIs. In his sophomore year, he appeared in 34 games, starting five, and posted a .256 batting average with two home runs and 12 RBIs. Perfect Game also recognized him as the top prospect from Kansas during his high school years.
Transfer Portal Activity and Future Outlook for Texas Tech
Larson's arrival is part of a broader trend in collegiate baseball, as the transfer portal was open for undergraduates from June 1-30. He is the ninth player to commit to Texas Tech via the portal, while 13 players from their 2026 roster have entered the portal. Texas Tech finished the recent season with a 27-28 record, missing the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year. The team's ongoing activity in the transfer market, coupled with two high-school signees signing professionally after the MLB draft, highlights their proactive approach to rebuilding and improving for future seasons.
