Atlanta United has finalized a loan agreement for its striker, Emmanuel Latte Lath, who will be joining Union Berlin in the Bundesliga for the entire 2026-27 season. This transaction, announced on Sunday, positions Latte Lath for an experience in one of Europe's premier football leagues.
The terms of the deal stipulate that Union Berlin will cover Latte Lath's full salary for the duration of the loan. Furthermore, the German club holds an exclusive option to secure the player's permanent transfer following the loan period. Latte Lath, aged 27, initially arrived at Atlanta United from Middlesbrough FC of the EFL Championship ahead of the 2025 MLS season. His acquisition by Atlanta reportedly involved a record-breaking transfer fee of $22 million, along with additional incentives. During his tenure with Atlanta, Latte Lath contributed 11 goals and four assists across 48 appearances in various competitions. This includes two goals and two assists from 14 matches (10 starts) during the 2026 regular season, a period where Atlanta United has struggled, currently holding the lowest record in MLS with 3 wins, 12 losses, and 3 draws, accumulating 12 points.
Chris Henderson, Atlanta United's chief soccer officer and sporting director, conveyed that this decision was made after discussions with Latte Lath, deeming it a beneficial opportunity for all parties involved.
