Bethesda Academy's football team commenced their 2026 season with an emphatic triumph, securing a dominant 55-7 win against Frederica Academy. This impressive start follows their perfect 2025 season, which culminated in their second SCISA Class 2A state championship with a decisive victory over Pee Dee Academy.
Quarterback Jordan Turner once again showcased his exceptional talent, building on his outstanding performance from the previous championship year. The junior signal-caller completed 17 of 22 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns, additionally contributing 37 rushing yards and two scores on just four carries. His offensive teammates also delivered strong performances: senior MJ Scott caught three passes for 86 yards and a touchdown, while Dezrin Davis added 59 receiving yards and a score from two receptions. Zhir Witcher contributed with four catches for 68 yards. The ground game was also effective, with Jeffrey Armstrong rushing for 42 yards and a touchdown, alongside an 18-yard receiving contribution, and Joseph Adkins breaking free for a 45-yard scoring run. Head coach Antwain Turner, now in his 22nd season, expressed satisfaction with the team's opener, especially noting improvements from earlier scrimmages and praising the offensive line's protection and the receivers' ability to gain yards after the catch. In contrast, Strong Rock Christian defeated Savannah Country Day 27-0. Savannah Country Day struggled to generate offense in their season opener against Strong Rock Christian, managing only 162 total yards, with 106 coming from their rushing attack. Junior quarterback Devin Trawick accounted for 39 rushing yards and 56 passing yards. Savannah Country Day, having transitioned from the GHSA to the GIAA this season, will look to regroup in their upcoming match against Bluffton.
