In light of this, Anthony Mantha, a prominent free agent, has surfaced as a potential target. Given that it's already mid-July, there's speculation that Mantha might be receptive to a short-term contract, which would align perfectly with the Blackhawks' immediate goals. His recent performance with the Pittsburgh Penguins has been particularly noteworthy.
During the 2025-26 season, Mantha, a 6-foot-5 forward, achieved career bests with 33 goals, 31 assists, and a total of 64 points over 81 games. Throughout his career, he has scored at least 23 goals in four different seasons, a tally that would likely have been higher had it not been for past injuries. This consistent scoring ability, combined with his physical presence, makes him an attractive option.
Ultimately, a one or two-year deal for Mantha could be a calculated risk that pays off handsomely for the Blackhawks. Such a move would provide an immediate offensive upgrade without committing to a long-term, high-risk contract. Any deal extending beyond two years, however, might carry more significant risks for the team.
