Blue Jays Reshuffle Roster Amidst Key Player Injury
Sosa's Wrist Injury Forces Him to the Sidelines
The Toronto Blue Jays announced a significant setback for their team this past Thursday, as second baseman Lenyn Sosa was officially placed on the 10-day injured list. This decision came after Sosa sustained a right wrist contusion from being hit by a pitch in a game played on Tuesday. The injury has temporarily sidelined the 26-year-old infielder from active play.
McAdoo Joins the Major League Squad
In a strategic response to Sosa's injury, the Blue Jays have made a corresponding roster move by elevating infielder Charles McAdoo from their Triple-A affiliate, the Buffalo Bisons. McAdoo, aged 24, is considered one of the organization's promising talents and will now get his first opportunity to contribute at the major league level. Before his promotion, he showcased solid offensive capabilities with Buffalo.
Sosa's Performance Before Injury
Prior to his injury, Lenyn Sosa had participated in 28 games for the Blue Jays, recording a batting average of .188 with one home run and six runs batted in. His season began with the Chicago White Sox, where he played 12 games, hitting .212. Over his career, spanning 343 regular-season games with both the White Sox and Blue Jays, Sosa holds a .241 batting average, alongside 38 home runs and 134 RBIs. The Blue Jays acquired Sosa from Chicago in a trade on April 13.
McAdoo's Journey to the Majors
Charles McAdoo's ascent to the major league roster follows a strong showing in Triple-A Buffalo, where he posted a .250 batting average, eight home runs, and 27 RBIs across 50 games. Rated as the 26th top prospect within the Toronto organization by MLB Pipeline, McAdoo's call-up represents a notable milestone in his professional career. Blue Jays manager John Schneider highlighted McAdoo's versatility on the field and his impressive offensive output as key factors in the decision, noting his ability to play multiple infield positions.
Additional Roster Adjustments by the Blue Jays
Beyond the changes involving Sosa and McAdoo, the Blue Jays implemented several other roster adjustments. Right-handed pitcher Chase Lee was optioned to Buffalo after making three relief appearances for Toronto. Concurrently, right-hander Connor Seabold was activated and added to the major league roster. Furthermore, right-handed pitcher Lazaro Estrada, who is recovering from a right shoulder impingement, was transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. Seabold was recently acquired from the Detroit Tigers, while Lee recorded an 8.10 ERA in his limited time with the team.
