Carlos Rodon Set for Minor League Rehab Assignment with Yankees

New York Yankees' left-handed starting pitcher Carlos Rodon is scheduled to commence a minor league rehabilitation assignment this Saturday. Rodon's last major league appearance was on June 28 before he was placed on the injured list with inflammation in his left elbow. He is expected to throw around 50 pitches for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team.

Manager Aaron Boone mentioned that an early return for Rodon in a 'piggyback' capacity is a strong possibility, drawing parallels to Max Fried's recent return from a bruised left elbow. This strategy involves bringing a pitcher back ahead of schedule with a limited pitch count. Rodon's journey back has been challenging; he underwent surgery last October to remove loose bodies from his elbow and also dealt with a right hamstring issue during spring training, delaying his season debut until May 10.

Before his current injury, the 33-year-old had a commendable season, posting a 4-2 record with a 3.30 ERA across nine starts. Over his 12-season career with the Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, and Yankees, the three-time All-Star boasts a 97-74 record with a 3.72 ERA, accumulating 1,461 strikeouts and 503 walks. The Yankees' pitching staff, currently featuring Gerrit Cole, Cam Schlittler, Will Warren, Ryan Weathers, and Max Fried, holds the third-best ERA in MLB at 3.48, highlighting the team's strong rotation despite recent injury setbacks.

Rodon's dedication to overcoming injuries and returning to the mound exemplifies the resilience required in professional sports. His commitment not only benefits his team but also inspires fans and aspiring athletes to persevere through adversity, showcasing the enduring spirit of competition and personal growth.
