CF Montréal has completed a notable trade to bring back winger Dante Sealy from the Colorado Rapids, a move designed to enhance the team's depth and versatility. This acquisition sees Montréal receiving the 23-year-old Trinidad & Tobago international, while the Colorado Rapids gain up to $1.7 million in General Allocation Money (GAM). The transaction, announced on Tuesday, involves a guaranteed payment of $1.4 million in GAM to Colorado, structured with $400,000 in 2026 and an additional $1 million in 2027. Furthermore, the Rapids could receive an extra $300,000 in conditional GAM. Luca Saputo, managing director for recruitment and sporting methodology at CF Montréal, expressed enthusiasm for Sealy's return, highlighting his ability to play multiple positions and his existing connection with the team's culture and personnel.
Sealy's previous stint with the Colorado Rapids saw him record five assists in 20 regular-season appearances this year. Prior to that, he had a career-best season in 2025 with Montréal, tallying nine goals and two assists in 30 matches, before being initially traded to Colorado in December. His career with FC Dallas from 2020-2024 also included two goals and one assist across 38 MLS appearances, showcasing his consistent performance in the league.
On the international stage, Sealy has proven his offensive prowess, having scored four goals in 11 appearances for Trinidad & Tobago. Pádraig Smith, president of the Rapids, extended his gratitude to Sealy for his contributions during his time with the club and wished him success in his future endeavors.
This acquisition marks Montréal's second offensive summer signing, following the earlier arrival of Designated Player Alexis Sánchez. With these reinforcements, CF Montréal, currently positioned 14th in the Eastern Conference with 21 points, aims to climb the standings. Meanwhile, the Colorado Rapids sit seventh in the Western Conference with 28 points, holding a strong position for an Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs spot.
