Right-handed pitcher Coleman Borthwick, a celebrated high school athlete, has been drafted 21st overall by the San Diego Padres. Ranked as the 31st best player in his draft class by ESPN, Borthwick's selection underscores his exceptional skill and potential. His entry into the professional ranks places him among a select group of Auburn commits who have faced this pivotal decision between college and pro baseball.
The Impressive High School Career of Coleman Borthwick
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-6 and weighing 245 pounds, Borthwick showcased remarkable talent both on the pitcher's mound and at the plate during his high school career. As the 2025-26 Gatorade Florida Baseball Player of the Year, he led South Walton High School to a state championship. His pitching statistics were dominant, featuring a 0.21 ERA and a perfect 10-0 record, alongside 121 strikeouts and only seven walks in 65⅔ innings. Offensively, he was equally impressive, batting .460 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs, 30 runs, and a 1.498 OPS. His achievements also include being recognized as the seventh-best high school prospect by Perfect Game and a gold cup medalist with USA Baseball's 18U team in the 2025 World Cup. Furthermore, Borthwick was named the World Baseball Softball Confederation's Player of the Year in 2025, an honor previously bestowed upon future MLB stars like Shohei Ohtani.
