In a thrilling Class 2A/1A state quarterfinals match held on May 29, 2026, at an undisclosed location, Miles Lute, a sophomore from Crosshill Christian, delivered a masterful performance that propelled the Eagles to an impressive 8-2 victory over Country Christian. Lute's all-around excellence was on full display as he not only secured a crucial hit and crossed the plate twice but also dominated on the mound, pitching five commanding innings and striking out seven batters. His stellar play captured the attention of Statesman Journal readers, who overwhelmingly voted him the Athlete of the Week, with Lute receiving a remarkable 57.55% of the total votes. Finally, Brody Panuke, a senior baseball player from Kennedy, contributed a hit, scored two runs, and pitched six innings with eight strikeouts in the Trojans' 6-3 win against Grant Union in the Class 2A/1A state quarterfinals.
