Demetrious Johnson to Be Inducted into UFC Hall of Fame

Demetrious Johnson, affectionately known as "Mighty Mouse," is finally receiving the honor he profoundly deserves. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officially announced his impending induction into the prestigious UFC Hall of Fame. This momentous occasion is scheduled to take place this July during International Fight Week, celebrating a career marked by unparalleled dominance and exceptional skill within the sport of mixed martial arts.

UFC CEO Dana White lauded Johnson's career, stating, "Demetrious Johnson stands as the greatest flyweight of all time. His career is among the most incredible in MMA history, highlighted by an astonishing 11 consecutive title defenses, a record that is truly remarkable across all professional sports. It will be an immense privilege to welcome him into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer." Johnson's journey in the UFC began with a victory over Kid Yamamoto, followed by another impressive win against former WEC champion Miguel Torres. His only defeat in a seven-year span within the promotion was against Dominick Cruz for the UFC Bantamweight title.

Following his move to the flyweight division, Johnson’s ascent to legendary status began. After an initial draw with Ian McCall in the UFC Flyweight tournament semifinal, Johnson secured a decisive win in their rematch at UFC 152. There, he triumphed over Joseph Benavidez, becoming the inaugural UFC Flyweight champion. This victory marked the beginning of an era of unprecedented dominance, as he went on to defend his title a record 11 times. This remarkable streak solidified his position not only as the greatest flyweight in MMA history but also as one of the sport's all-time elite athletes, regardless of weight class.

Johnson’s reign as champion concluded with a narrow split decision loss to Henry Cejudo. Instead of a rematch, he was notably traded to ONE Championship in exchange for Ben Askren, marking the first trade in the history of MMA. In ONE Championship, Johnson continued to showcase his extraordinary talent, achieving a 5-1 record and capturing a world title before eventually retiring from active competition.

His impressive statistics further underscore his Hall of Fame credentials: He holds the longest title reign in UFC flyweight history at 2,142 days, ranking second overall in UFC history. He also boasts the longest consecutive fight winning streak in UFC flyweight history with 13 victories and shares the record for the most title fight wins in UFC flyweight history with 12, placing him third in UFC history overall. Johnson also leads in top position time in UFC flyweight history with 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 52 seconds. His striking accuracy is equally impressive, with the highest significant strike accuracy percentage at 57.2% and the highest significant strike defense percentage at 68.4%. Additionally, he is tied for the second-most wins in UFC flyweight history with 13 and is tied for the second-most finishes with 7. These achievements undeniably solidify his place as a no-brainer Hall of Famer, a true icon whose contributions to mixed martial arts are indelible.
