Dodgers Bolster Triple-A Roster with Infield Acquisition

The Los Angeles Dodgers have recently expanded their Triple-A Oklahoma City roster by acquiring infielder Tyler Fitzgerald from the Toronto Blue Jays. This transaction, completed for cash considerations, adds a player with major league experience and positional versatility to their minor league system. Coincidentally, this marks the second Fitzgerald to join the Dodgers' minor league ranks this season, as Ryan Fitzgerald was previously acquired via waivers in January.

Tyler Fitzgerald's journey to the Dodgers' organization involved a recent stint with the Toronto Blue Jays, who acquired him from the San Francisco Giants earlier in April before designating him for assignment. Over three seasons with the Giants, from 2023 to 2025, Fitzgerald displayed his abilities at various infield and outfield positions, including shortstop, second base, third base, first base, and all three outfield spots. His offensive statistics with the Giants included a batting line of .252/.309/.430 with 21 home runs across 618 plate appearances, resulting in a 106 wRC+ (weighted Runs Created Plus).

Notably, Fitzgerald has shown a particular aptitude against left-handed pitching throughout his career, boasting a .280/.347/.495 batting line and a 134 wRC+ in 203 plate appearances. This skill set could prove valuable as he aims to make an impact within the Dodgers' system. Despite his previous major league success, Fitzgerald's recent Triple-A performance in Sacramento and Buffalo was less stellar, recording only three hits in 32 at-bats with one walk and 19 strikeouts in nine games.

To accommodate Tyler Fitzgerald on their 40-man roster, the Dodgers made a corresponding move by placing pitcher Landon Knack on the 60-day injured list. Knack has been recovering from an intercostal strain since late March. This roster adjustment ensures that Knack will not be eligible for activation until at least May 21st, allowing the team to manage their active roster effectively while integrating Fitzgerald into their system.

The Dodgers' acquisition of Tyler Fitzgerald signifies their continuous efforts to enhance organizational depth and explore talent across different leagues. His prior major league experience and diverse defensive capabilities suggest he could be a valuable asset for the Oklahoma City Triple-A team, offering flexibility and potential for future call-ups. This strategic move aims to fortify their minor league options and foster competition within the system.
