Dodgers Make Pitching Staff Changes, Recall Wyatt Mills

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made further alterations to their pitching lineup, recalling right-handed pitcher Wyatt Mills from their Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City. This marks the third consecutive day the team has adjusted its bullpen. In a corresponding move, right-hander Paul Gervase has been optioned back to Triple-A.

Mills, aged 31, is anticipated to make his first appearance for the Dodgers. He joined the organization in August as a free agent after being released by the Boston Red Sox. During his tenure with Oklahoma City this season, Mills posted a 3-2 record with an impressive 3.26 ERA across 14 relief outings. Over 19 1/3 innings pitched, he recorded 28 strikeouts against only seven walks, showcasing his command and effectiveness.

Mills' last major league appearance was in 2022. His career statistics in the big leagues include an 0-1 record with a 6.21 ERA over 38 relief appearances, split between the Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals. His career was interrupted by Tommy John surgery in 2023, causing him to miss two full seasons. His return to the Dodgers' roster signals a potential fresh start following his recovery and strong performance in the minors.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Paul Gervase, who had just made his season debut for the Dodgers on Saturday, has been sent back to Triple-A. In his brief outing, Gervase allowed one run over three innings while striking out five batters. Across his seven career major league appearances, all occurring within the last two seasons, Gervase holds a respectable 3.97 ERA.

This ongoing roster management highlights the Dodgers' dynamic approach to optimizing their pitching staff, continually evaluating and integrating talent to maintain competitiveness. Mills' recall provides the team with a seasoned relief option, while Gervase's return to Triple-A offers him more opportunities to develop and refine his skills for future major league contributions.
