Polk County's high school golf circuit recently saw several athletes deliver outstanding performances at the prestigious Hawkins/Crutchfield Invitational and other local tournaments. This report highlights the remarkable individual victories and strong team showings that defined these competitions.

Triumphs and Talents: Polk County's Golfing Excellence Shines

Elizabeth Hall's Remarkable Back-to-Back Victory

Lakeland High School's senior golfer, Elizabeth Hall, displayed exceptional skill and determination, securing her second consecutive victory at the 2026 Girls Crutchfield/Hawkins Invitational held at Pinecrest Golf Club in Sebring. Her impressive performance, including shooting one of her lowest-ever scores, underscored her growing prowess on the course and her invaluable leadership for a rebuilding team.

The Reemergence of Lakeland's Golf Program

Hall's success is particularly significant as she leads a revitalized Lakeland golf team. After having only two players last year, the Dreadnaughts now boast a five-member girls' team. Hall has embraced her role as a senior leader, guiding her younger teammates with strategic advice and practical demonstrations, a process that has also sharpened her own game, leading to multiple wins on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour.

McKeel's Leonie Tavares Claims First Hawkins Victory

In a parallel event at the River Greens Golf Course, McKeel junior Leonie Tavares achieved a significant milestone by winning her first Hawkins/Crutchfield tournament. Her score of 70 was a personal best, reflecting her dedication and talent. Coach Jeremy Bohnenstiehl praised Tavares's performance against tough competition, highlighting her potential.

Top Individual and Team Placements Across the County

Beyond the individual champions, other Polk County golfers demonstrated strong capabilities. Winter Haven's Danica Becker and Auburndale's Rylee Smith secured top-10 finishes in the girls' division, while Frostproof's Hannah Castillo, a consistent top performer, earned third place in her event. In the boys' division, Bartow's Blake Barron continued his winning streak at the Turtle Run tournament, joined by several McKeel and Lakeland Christian freshmen and juniors in the top ranks. These events also highlighted the competitive team dynamics, with Frostproof, McKeel, and George Jenkins showing strong collective efforts.
