Dominick Goodman's Long-Term Vision for Walnut Hills Football

Dominick Goodman, a celebrated figure in football with a history of success at both high school and collegiate levels, has embarked on a new chapter as the head coach for the Walnut Hills High School football program. After a distinguished playing career where he was accustomed to victory, including a 15-0 state championship with Colerain and setting records as a wide receiver for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, Goodman now confronts the challenge of nurturing a struggling team from the ground up.

Walnut Hills has faced significant difficulties, with a combined record of 3-28 in the three seasons preceding Goodman's arrival and no winning season since 2011. Despite the team's current 0-4 start, characterized by substantial point differences, Goodman's primary focus is not on the immediate win-loss record. Instead, his vision centers on cultivating a robust team culture, fostering player development, and instilling a deep love for the sport among his young squad, which consists predominantly of underclassmen.

Goodman's coaching philosophy stems from his own playing experience, where dedication and hard work were paramount to overcoming natural limitations. He aims to impart this ethos to his players, emphasizing that consistent effort yields long-term rewards, even if they aren't reflected in immediate scoreboard results. This approach involves teaching fundamental skills and patiently guiding players to improve their physical and mental game, recognizing that many are new to organized football.

Goodman transitioned into coaching after a career that included professional Arena Football and roles as a behavioral specialist and sports director. His journey to Walnut Hills, following a successful stint as offensive coordinator at Talawanda, where he helped revitalize their program, solidified his commitment to coaching. He views the Walnut Hills position as an ideal opportunity to replicate past successes in building a program from its foundations, focusing on gradual, sustained growth rather than quick fixes.

While the path to turning around Walnut Hills will require patience and persistence, Goodman is committed to a long-term strategy. He understands that transforming a team's fortunes takes time and a deep investment in its players. His goal is to ensure continuous improvement, believing that ultimately, this dedication to development will lead to future success, a message he consistently delivers to his team despite the current challenges.
