In an impressive display of adaptability and skill, Brian Dopp, a recent graduate of Adrian Madison, quickly formed connections with new teammates on the Lenawee County squad. Stepping onto the field as quarterback for the All-Star Game against Monroe County at Adrian College, Dopp faced the challenge of leading a team without his usual high school receivers, yet he seamlessly integrated, directing his passes to five different players.
Dopp's outstanding performance included 179 passing yards and a crucial touchdown, guiding his team to a hard-fought 27-22 win. Completing 9 out of 15 attempts, his leadership and precision earned him the Most Valuable Player award for Lenawee. This memorable game served as the culmination of Dopp’s football journey, as he prepares to transition to college baseball at Saginaw Valley State.
Lenawee County's coach, Erik Johnson, recognized Dopp's talent early on, noting his quick release and powerful arm during the initial practice sessions. Dopp himself expressed the significance of this final football experience, cherishing the opportunity to play under the Friday night lights one last time. This victory was particularly sweet for Lenawee County, marking their first triumph over Monroe in the three-year history of the All-Star Game.
Dopp orchestrated two pivotal touchdown drives after Monroe briefly took a 7-6 lead, demonstrating his composure and strategic prowess. His quick passes led to an 8-yard touchdown for Caden Kubacki and set up a 4-yard scoring run by Jamari Blue, giving Lenawee a 20-7 advantage by halftime. The team further extended their lead in the third quarter with an 11-yard run by Braylon Zimmerman, ultimately securing their historic win despite Monroe's late attempts at a comeback. Kubacki, Barrie, and Roe were among the top receivers, while Declan Cornish contributed with field goals and PATs.
