Elite Golfers Confirm Participation for Final Rocket Classic in Detroit

The concluding edition of Detroit's Rocket Classic golf tournament is set to host a formidable lineup of professional players. Recent announcements confirm the participation of several globally recognized golfers, signaling a grand finale for an event that has been a fixture in the city's sports calendar. This final staging underscores the tournament's significant impact on the Detroit community, both economically and in showcasing the city's resurgence.

Organizers revealed on Tuesday, July 7, that three more players currently ranked within the top 100 worldwide have committed to compete. These additions include Sam Burns, holding the 17th position, Akshay Bhatia at 26th, and Sungjae Im, ranked 80th. Notably, Cam Davis, a two-time previous champion of the Rocket Classic, whose current ranking is 336th, has also confirmed his attendance. These golfers will join an already impressive roster for the tournament, scheduled from July 30 to August 2 at the Detroit Golf Club. The field already boasts four players from the world's top 20, including Cameron Young (No. 3), Russell Henley (No. 5), and two-time U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark (No. 8).

The decision to conclude the Rocket Classic comes amidst a period of considerable restructuring within the PGA Tour's competitive framework. A statement from Rocket, the tournament's sponsor, reflected on its legacy: "We are incredibly proud of what this tournament has meant to the city, from creating unforgettable moments for fans to raising more than $10 million for local organizations." The statement also highlighted the event's success in achieving its initial objective: "When we launched the Rocket Classic, our mission was to shine a national spotlight on Detroit. Rocket affirmed its ongoing commitment to Detroit, expressing anticipation for celebrating the final event and acknowledging its lasting positive influence on the city.

As of July 7, the confirmed participants for the 2026 Rocket Classic include a diverse mix of golfing talent. Beyond the newly announced names, the list features Xander Schauffele (No. 14), Aaron Rai (No. 16), Si Woo Kim (No. 22), Hideki Matsuyama (No. 30), Nicolai Hojgaard (No. 34), Keegan Bradley (No. 40), and Rickie Fowler (No. 41). Also returning are Nico Echavarria (No. 53), Aldrich Potgieter (No. 77) as the defending champion, Rasmus Hojgaard (No. 86), Ricky Castillo (No. 99), and past champions Tony Finau (No. 118, 2022 winner) and Cameron Davis (No. 336, 2021 and 2024 winner). Additional players Joe Hooks, William Jennings, and Brad Dalke are also slated to participate. The complete 156-player field will be finalized and announced closer to the tournament date.
