British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu is set to miss the highly anticipated US Open tournament. Her absence stems from a persistent stress fracture in her right leg, an injury that previously led to her withdrawal from Wimbledon just before the event. This latest setback was confirmed after extensive discussions with her medical team, indicating that her participation in New York later this month is not feasible.
A Year Plagued by Injuries and Health Issues
While Raducanu's withdrawal might not surprise those familiar with her injury history and her recent cautious return to court in a protective boot, it represents yet another blow for the 23-year-old athlete. Following a period of promising progress last summer, which included securing victories at Flushing Meadows for the first time since her historic win five years prior, the past 12 months have been marked by frustrating and ongoing physical ailments.
The Domino Effect of Health Setbacks
Raducanu's challenging year began with a significant foot injury that severely disrupted her pre-season training. This was followed by a two-and-a-half-month hiatus from the court due to a post-viral illness, which initially manifested in early February. Her eventual return coincided with the latter part of the clay-court season, where she reunited with Andrew Richardson, the coach instrumental in her US Open triumph. However, their time on court together has been considerably curtailed by her health issues.

Despite the obstacles, Raducanu showcased a glimpse of her formidable talent at Queen's Club in June, reaching her most significant final since her New York victory. Unfortunately, this very effort is believed to have exacerbated her current leg injury. Her name was notably absent from Great Britain's squad for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals scheduled for late September. With her ranking expected to drop from its current position of 49, there is considerable uncertainty regarding whether Raducanu will be able to compete again in 2026.
