These comments were made shortly after U.S. Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) leveled serious accusations of "direct bribery" against Infantino, linking his conduct to former President Donald Trump and his administration. The tournament was indeed marred by several operational challenges, including visa restrictions imposed by the Trump administration that prevented fans and even entire teams from countries such as Iran, Haiti, Senegal, and Ivory Coast from fully participating or attending.
