Fourteen baseball players from the Florida Gators program are set to engage in summer league play in 2026. A significant portion of these athletes will be featured in the highly regarded Cape Cod League. Additionally, three pitchers have received the distinct honor of being invited to the USA National Team training camp, highlighting a period of intense development and exposure for the team's emerging talent.
As previously announced earlier in the month, the pitching trio of Jackson Barberi, Aidan King, and Joshua Whritneour have secured invitations to join Team USA's training camp. While an invitation does not guarantee a final roster spot on the national team, it presents an invaluable opportunity for these athletes to gain experience alongside some of collegiate baseball's top performers and under the guidance of an elite coaching staff.
Following the conclusion of the Collegiate National Team roster selections on July 5, Barberi and Whritneour are also committed to joining the Cape Cod League. Barberi is slated to play for the Harwich Mariners, and Whritneour will be a part of the Brewster Whitecaps. These commitments underscore the players' dedication to continuous improvement and their pursuit of high-level competition during the off-season.
In total, ten Gators will be heading to the Cape Cod League. Shortstop Brendan Lawson, right-handed pitcher Schuyler Sandford, and outfielder Cash Strayer will join Whritneour on the Whitecaps roster. Catcher Jon Embury, a transfer from FGCU, will play for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Left-handed pitcher Jackson Hoyt, two-way talent Caden McDonald, and outfielder Hayden Yost are scheduled to compete with the Wareham Gatemen. Rounding out the Cape Cod contingent, third baseman Ethan Surowiec will spend his summer with the Bourne Braves.
Beyond the Cape Cod League, infielder Colton Schwarz is the sole Gator heading to the Valley League, where he will play for the Strasburg Express. Infielder Nic Partridge, who redshirted without game action last season, will participate in the Florida Collegiate Summer League with the DeLand Suns. Incoming freshman right-handed pitcher Cameron Hanes will also compete in the FCSL, playing for the Winter Park Diamond Dogs. These diverse assignments ensure a broad spectrum of development opportunities for the Gators' baseball program across various competitive summer circuits.
The deployment of fourteen Florida Gators baseball players to various summer leagues, including the esteemed Cape Cod League and the USA National Team training camp, signifies a strategic focus on player development and exposure to high-level competition. These assignments provide invaluable experience for the athletes, allowing them to refine their skills and gain recognition, ultimately strengthening the Gators program for future seasons. The diverse range of leagues and teams ensures that each player finds an environment suited to their individual growth needs, from established pitchers honing their craft with national talent to promising freshmen gaining their first taste of collegiate-level summer ball.
