The team is preparing for a new season, with rookie camp scheduled to commence shortly in Allentown, PA. The air is thick with anticipation as the offseason draws to a close, and a flurry of exciting developments has emerged regarding the franchise's future.
In a significant announcement, the Flyers and Sixers have released preliminary designs for a new sports complex in South Philadelphia, projected to be completed by 2030. This initiative, first revealed in January 2025, also anticipates accommodating a WNBA franchise by its opening. The proposed venue will honor the legacy of the historic Spectrum, incorporating elements from the former Philadelphia landmark. This ambitious project represents a collaborative effort between Harris-Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, the Sixers' ownership group, and Comcast Spectacor, the Flyers' ownership group. This marks a departure from the current setup at Xfinity Mobile Arena, which is exclusively owned by Comcast Spectacor. The aim is to centralize Philadelphia's major sports teams within a cutting-edge facility in the South Philly sports complex, ensuring all teams remain in close proximity.
On Tuesday, visual representations of the future arena were unveiled, offering the public a glimpse into this modern sports hub. Brian Roberts, Chairman of Comcast Corporation, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This is a new era for Philadelphia sports. To build our future where Ed Snider and the Spectrum made history makes this project truly special. Working with HBSE, we are creating a world-class experience worthy of Philadelphia's incredible fans. Meanwhile, the Flyers are also focused on their on-ice preparations. Rookie camp is set to kick off on Friday, September 11th, marking the official start of the new hockey year. Following this, the main training camp will commence with an updated roster. A total of 46 players, comprising 26 forwards, 16 defensemen, and 4 goaltenders, will report to the Flyers training center in Voorhees, NJ. The coaching staff will then evaluate these players to trim the roster down to the final 23.
The training camp roster includes both established players and new faces. Among the forwards, four individuals are making their debut with the organization this year: Noel Acciari, who is expected to secure a spot on the main roster, along with Danila Kilmovich, Zach Aston-Reese, and Jack Studnicka. Additionally, Riley Thompson, an NCAA Free Agent signed last season, will participate in his first Flyers training camp. On the defensive end, summer acquisitions Cam Dineen and Andrew Perrot are two of six defensemen joining the Flyers' camp for the first time. The other new defensemen include Maxsiim Sokolovskii (a 2026 1st-round pick), Simon Benoit (acquired via trade with Toronto), David Jiricek (obtained from Minnesota), and Jackson Edward (from Boston). Regarding goaltenders, Martin Psohlovec and Marek Sklenicka, both drafted by the Flyers in 2026, will return to their junior teams. Instead, Dan Vladar, Aleksei Kolosov, and Carson Bjarnason will rejoin the camp, while Joseph Woll, acquired this summer, will attend his inaugural camp with the team.
The training camp schedule begins with on-ice sessions on Thursday, September 17th, at the Flyers Training Center, continuing for three days before a scheduled day off. The first preseason game is slated for Monday, September 21st, in Hershey against the Capitals. The team will then return to Xfinity Mobile Arena for their preseason home opener against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, September 22nd. The final practice session will take place on Sunday, September 27th, with the regular season commencing on September 30th.
