The Philadelphia Flyers have officially locked in star forward Trevor Zegras with a substantial four-year, $36.5 million agreement. This move successfully sidesteps the arbitration process for the restricted free agent, ensuring his continued presence with the team for the foreseeable future.
Zegras, at 25 years old, made a significant impact in his inaugural season with Philadelphia after being acquired from the Anaheim Ducks last June. He achieved personal bests across multiple categories, including 26 goals, 67 points, 10 power-play goals, and 23 power-play points. His exceptional performance was instrumental in leading the Flyers to break a five-year playoff absence, showcasing his immense value to the squad. Under this new deal, his annual average salary of $9.125 million makes him the top earner on the Flyers' roster, reflecting his crucial role and expected future contributions.
Flyers General Manager Daniel Briere conveyed enthusiasm about the signing, highlighting Zegras's growth and proving his initial promise as a highly skilled player. Briere emphasized that Zegras is viewed as a foundational piece who will significantly contribute to the team's ongoing development and help them reach new heights. Drafted ninth overall in 2019 by the Ducks, Zegras has amassed 253 points (93 goals, 160 assists) over 349 regular-season games with both Anaheim and Philadelphia. He was also a Calder Trophy finalist in 2021-22, securing 61 points in his first full professional season.
This contract underscores the Flyers' commitment to building a competitive team around dynamic talent like Zegras. His leadership and offensive prowess are expected to inspire the team and generate excitement among fans, paving the way for a bright and successful future for the Philadelphia franchise.
