Former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun is embarking on a new chapter in his football journey, having officially joined the Canadian Football League's (CFL) BC Lions. This development provides Oladokun with a significant opportunity to revitalize his professional career following his tenure with the Chiefs, where he spent four seasons primarily as a backup to star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Oladokun's time with the Chiefs, spanning from 2022 to 2025, saw him develop under the shadow of one of the NFL's most dynamic quarterbacks. Initially drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, he later found himself in Kansas City. Despite limited playing time, he was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams in 2023 and 2024, gaining invaluable experience and collecting championship rings. His most notable on-field action came last season when he stepped in after Mahomes sustained a season-ending ACL injury. During this period, Oladokun started two games and appeared in three, completing 35 out of 55 passes for 235 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions, alongside 23 rushing yards. He was eventually waived by the Chiefs during final roster cuts in August and subsequently reached an injury settlement.
The BC Lions' announcement on Monday confirmed Oladokun's addition to their practice roster. This move was facilitated by the team's decision to release quarterback Chase Brice, creating a vacancy for Oladokun. He joins a Lions squad that already features Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke as its starter. For Oladokun, this represents a crucial chance to return to competitive play after spending the early part of the 2026 season rehabilitating from his injury.
