George Pickens Joins Cowboys for Mandatory Minicamp After Signing Franchise Tag

George Pickens, the prominent wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, has officially arrived at the team’s training complex for his medical examination and is slated to attend the upcoming mandatory minicamp, as widely reported by various media outlets. This key development marks his return to team activities after a period of absence from voluntary sessions earlier in the offseason.

The Cowboys' mandatory minicamp is scheduled to take place over three days, commencing on Tuesday and concluding on Thursday. Pickens’ presence is particularly significant given that he had not participated in any of the team's optional workouts since the Cowboys applied the franchise tag to him. Despite his earlier absence, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer had publicly expressed his confidence in Pickens’ attendance at the minicamp, noting that he was handling his affairs and missed his teammates.

Pickens, at 25 years old, formalized his commitment to the team by signing his franchise tag on April 29th, securing a guaranteed salary of $27.3 million for the 2026 season. This decision followed an exceptional 2025 season, where he earned his first Pro Bowl selection, achieving career highs with 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns across 17 games (15 starts) in his inaugural year with Dallas. The Cowboys had placed the franchise tag on Pickens on February 27th, marking their first use of the tag since applying it to running back Tony Pollard in 2023. Originally a second-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022 out of Georgia, Pickens was traded to the Cowboys last season and has accumulated 267 receptions, 4,270 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns over 65 career games (55 starts).

The return of George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys' mandatory minicamp is a positive sign for the team's upcoming season, underscoring the importance of player commitment and collective effort. His decision to fulfill his contractual obligations and rejoin his teammates reflects a commendable professionalism that is essential for achieving success in professional sports. This development not only strengthens the team's offensive capabilities but also reinforces the spirit of collaboration and dedication necessary for overcoming challenges and pursuing excellence on the field.
