Jackson Koivun, recognized as the premier amateur golfer globally, officially declared on Friday his intention to transition to professional golf and compete on the PGA Tour, bypassing his senior year at Auburn University.
The 21-year-old talent will conclude his amateur career next week at the U.S. Open in Shinnecock Hills, where he will participate as an invitee, having earned the McCormack Medal last year. His professional journey is slated to commence at the John Deere Classic, set to take place from July 1-5 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Koivun articulated his heartfelt appreciation to Auburn University for providing an extraordinary collegiate experience, highlighting the national championships won and the camaraderie forged with teammates. He emphasized that this decision was driven by his lifelong ambition to compete on the PGA Tour.
Koivun secured his PGA Tour card following a tied-for-fourth-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Championship, which enabled him to accumulate the necessary points for PGA Tour University Accelerated. He had previously postponed his professional membership for a year to complete his junior year at Auburn.
