Gonzaga Baseball Boosts Roster with Star Transfer Josiah Rodriguez

The Gonzaga Bulldogs baseball team has secured a notable addition to their lineup through the NCAA transfer portal, welcoming junior third baseman Josiah Rodriguez. Hailing from Point Loma, a Division II baseball powerhouse, and having attended Junipero Serra High School, the same alma mater as baseball legend Barry Bonds, Rodriguez arrives with an impressive collegiate record.

During his sophomore season, Rodriguez showcased exceptional offensive skills, achieving a remarkable .411 batting average, which ranks as the sixth-highest in Point Loma's program history. He also boasted a .555 slugging percentage and a .484 on-base percentage across 63 starts. His contributions included seven home runs, 13 doubles, 37 walks, and 52 runs batted in, playing a crucial role in the Sea Wolves' journey to the College World Series. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the NCBWA NCAA Division II All-West Region Second Team.

This strategic acquisition comes at a crucial time for Gonzaga, as the team recently saw the departure of two significant contributors. Redshirt junior third baseman Mikey Bell, a two-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year, has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs, while freshman right-handed pitcher Landon Hood, named the 2026 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, is heading to the LSU Tigers. With the transfer portal officially closing on June 30th, securing a talent like Rodriguez is a vital step for the Bulldogs to maintain their competitive edge.

Gonzaga's proactive approach in the transfer market, exemplified by the recruitment of Josiah Rodriguez, underscores the team's commitment to excellence and its determination to build a formidable roster. This move not only fills crucial gaps left by departing players but also injects new talent and potential into the team, promising an exciting future for Bulldogs baseball. The addition of a player with Rodriguez's caliber reflects a positive outlook for the upcoming season, demonstrating the team's ambition to achieve new heights.
