In a thrilling conclusion to the Charles Schwab Challenge, Russell Henley claimed his sixth PGA Tour triumph, outdueling Eric Cole in a dramatic playoff. Henley's decisive birdie on the initial playoff hole sealed a remarkable comeback performance, punctuated by a string of three consecutive birdies on the final holes of regular play to draw even with Cole.
The competition reached its climax at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where both Henley and Cole finished the regulation 72 holes tied at 12-under-par 268. Henley, displaying exceptional resolve, fired a 3-under 67 on the final day, erasing a deficit with a late charge that included a crucial 16-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to extend the contest.
Entering the playoff, the momentum seemed to be with Henley. On the par-4 18th, Cole had an opportunity to clinch his inaugural PGA Tour victory with a 13-foot birdie attempt, but his putt narrowly missed. Seizing the moment, Henley then sank a putt from within five feet, securing the win and marking his first victory since the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Cole, who had led after the third round, struggled to maintain his early momentum, carding a 70. Despite starting strong with birdies on the first two holes, he was unable to hold off Henley's relentless pursuit. Henley's round was a roller coaster, beginning with an eagle and a birdie, followed by three bogeys, but he ultimately found his rhythm to make a significant push towards the end.
Other notable performances included defending champion Ben Griffin, Mac Meissner, and Alex Smalley, who all finished tied for third at 11 under par. Griffin's impressive 65 tied for the best round of the day. Meissner, playing alongside Cole in the final pairing, needed a birdie on the 18th to join the playoff but could only manage a par after finding a bunker. The tournament showcased intense competition and strategic play, culminating in Henley's well-deserved win.
