How to breed neon tetras? Neon tetra breeding

Neon Tetra Breeding: The breeding conditions for neon tetras are more demanding than their husbandry conditions. Husbandry requires slightly acidic soft water with a temperature of approximately 24-26℃ and a pH of 5.5-7.0. Breeding conditions are even more stringent, requiring approximately acidic soft water with a temperature of approximately 25-26℃ and a pH of 5.6-6.8. Since neon tetras naturally prefer dimly lit environments, they are even more accustomed to a dark environment during the breeding season.

Without perfect environmental conditions, tetras will never lay eggs. Tetras typically need a nest for spawning, which can be made from the veins of palm leaves. Place the nest at the bottom of the breeding tank, adjusting the water temperature, pH, and other conditions necessary for tetra breeding, and keeping the surrounding light dim. Place a pre-selected pair of parent fish into the breeding tank; they will lay fertilized eggs in about 24 hours. After about a day, the fertilized eggs will hatch into fry. The fry will begin to swim around after about 1-2 days, at which point they should be fed slurry containing a large amount of paramecium. After two to three weeks, you can resume normal tetra feeding.

Although the complete process is as described above, it is difficult for individual hobbyists to guarantee the stability of water quality. Slight carelessness can damage the eggs or even kill the parent fish. Therefore, it is not recommended for individual hobbyists to attempt breeding neon tetras.
